DESCRIPTION OF BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Behavior Interventionist will provide daily educational and behavioral support to individual students. The position requires using experiential education to provide opportunities for youth to make positive choices, gain self-confidence and learn skills that are critical to their lifelong development.

The interventionist will provide individualized support to child or youth struggling to find success in public school due to social-emotional and behavioral challenges. Interventionists will provide support in social, recreational, and daily living skills in school, community and outdoor education settings.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assign staff to students, provide support in the area of behavior intervention and management for all staff working with students.
  • Assist staff in defining and measuring behavior; understanding principles of reinforcement; teaching new behavior; implementing strategies for weakening behavior; and identifying antecedents.
  • Participate in the development of Behavioral Intervention Plans.
  • Work with individual staff, groups of staff and/or the entire staff on issues such as: crisis intervention, learning and collaboration issues, and factors that can affect development and implementation of interventions.
  • Promote highly specialized positive behavior interventions in which “at risk” students thrive behavior instruction that is explicit, intensive, accelerated and provides ample practice.
  • Provide recognition of a variety of student accomplishments and positive behaviors.
  • Work cooperatively with clinicians and teachers to promote positive student behavior by providing professional development that targets research, strategies and modeling of instructional practices to support teachers in their implementation of positive behavior support in their classrooms.
  • Continually supervise students to ensure a safe, non-threatening, nurturing environment where students can thrive.
  • Engage parents in the “student behavior intervention plan” process and empower parents by providing them with skills and techniques to support the positive behavior development of their child.
  • Conduct conflict resolution and peer mediation sessions.
  • Consult with the program clinical and special education teacher
  • Attend professional development opportunities to maintain a high level of skill and knowledge of current research and practices.
  • Serve as a consultant to staff, teachers, and parents.
  • Organize and schedule time commitments to meet demands of the job.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures; report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources.
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve program and student specific goals.
  • Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge.
  • Manage EDU Support Specialists making sure they adhere to program expectations and policies
  • Communicate with EDU Support Specialists appropriately and effectively (coaching, supporting, correcting, guiding, instructing)
  • Ensure all visitors to building surrounding education and students sign a visitor form and visitor sheet.
  • Adhering to each Youth Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) that is compliant with Federal, State, and Local law/guidelines.
  • Adhere to HIPPA guidelines and maintain respect and confidentiality for all children and families
  • Any additional tasks given by Supervisor to strengthen our program

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES & OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
Knowledge of:

  • Know all of the youth Behavior Intervention Plans
  • Environmental and social/emotional issues that impact Youth success.

Ability to:

  • Engage in relationship-building strategies with at-risk youth and parents to identify strategies to achieve long term goals.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism during work hours.
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors.
  • Build positive relationships and rapport.
  • Engage with youth in various outings, community resource fairs/job fairs and community.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all youth and staff in the program
  • Active engagement with each client in the assigned program.
  • Create and maintain a clean environment.
  • Possesses physical and emotional health necessary for effective job performance
    • Independently lift 40 pounds
    • Capable of transferring and positioning students
    • Work with physically aggressive students

Other Characteristics:

  • Willingness to work in nontraditional settings with youth who may require additional individualized support to be successful.
  • Display and maintain an appropriate level of professionalism when conducting work for the agency.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • 3+ years experience in Youth Behavior Support field
  • 1+ year experience in leadership
  • Pass Caregiver Background Check
  • Bachelors in Human Services and/or Social Work preferred
  • Possess a valid Wisconsin Driver's License
