Work Shift

2nd Shift: 3 pm‑11 pm, Monday‑Friday.

Job Summary

Set up and operate valve seat insert side and centerless grinders, vibros, and cob dryers. Perform visual and dimensional inspection at the grinding operation and utilize measuring equipment as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Accountable for creating a quality product.
  • Participate in training to produce quality and use preventative measures to ensure customer requirements and Tenneco standards are met.
  • Comply with legal and other requirements to avoid injury to self and others.
  • Understand preventative measures and create a safe environment by identifying potential emergency situations and reporting incidents.
  • Adhere to the facility’s quality, environmental, health and safety policies identified by Management Systems.
  • Read routers and production schedules for product specifications such as dimensions, tolerance, and number of parts; record information for inspection and production using various forms, logs, and computer systems.
  • Monitor product for specifications using inspection equipment such as air gages, gage height, refractometer, micrometer, surface finish testers, digital indicators, scales, and visual aids.
  • Verify equipment settings—including feeds, speeds, temperatures, cycle times, pressure settings, air settings, switches, and valve adjustments—to ensure conformance to specification using established standards.
  • Use statistical data to determine conforming product; analyze and monitor scrap and nonconforming parts to aid in determining cause of failure.
  • Start, shut down, set up, and operate side and centerless grinders, vibro, and cob dryers.
  • Multitask to set up and operate side grinder and centerless grinder simultaneously.
  • Operate overhead hoists and hand jacks; load and unload various types of containers, including pans, bins, baskets, and trays.
  • Drive forklifts and attain certification if required.
  • Monitor and set up equipment daily.
  • Change worn grinding wheels, mount wheel on spindle, adjust blade height and angles as required, and dress grinding wheels to specification.
  • Read, interpret, and follow all safety rules and regulations while performing operations.
  • Troubleshoot and perform TPMs of the equipment by observation and general cleaning.
  • Overtime is required as posted weekly and may be mandated for this position.
  • Perform any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor or management.
Level 1
  • Must complete the training, written and practical assessment as Level 1 before moving into Level 2.
Grinder Level 2

Option A: Change worn grinding wheels, mount wheel on spindle, and dress grinding wheels to specification. Must complete the training and pass a practical assessment.

Option B: Meet requirements to train Grinding Personnel. Must complete the training, written and practical assessment.

Option C: Ability to set up and operate grinding in VSI and VG. Must complete the training, written and practical assessment.

Qualification Requirements

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred. Minimum of one year related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
