EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY SECURITY GUARD PART‑TIME 10 HOURS PER WEEK

This position is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the staff, patrons, and library premises by patrolling, monitoring surveillance, controlling access, and responding to incidents. The Library is looking for a candidate who works well with all kinds of people and understands the transformative value that a library brings to its community.

The 2026 starting salary is $19.49 per hour.
Schedule may include mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends. Schedule flexibility is essential.

The PositionGraduation from high school or GED plus 2 years of experience in law enforcement or security services; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the following knowledge, ability, and skills:
- Knowledge of public safety and security, the use of general office equipment including computers and relevant software, relevant safety and security information, resources available to assist patrons with mental health issues, substance abuse, unstable housing, exclusion issues, trauma, or other life challenges, first aid/CPR. (Preferred).
- Ability to respond to the needs and interests of all library patrons, prepare clear and concise reports and recommendations, establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, and the public, follow directions and work with minimal supervision, be firm and respond quickly and decisively, exercise good judgment in demanding situations, learn basic policies and procedures of the library, regularly walk around and patrol the library, anticipate potential disruptive behavior and safety or security threats and take preventative action, and think quickly and critically.
- Skills in oral and written communications, public relations, organization and attention to detail, analytical and problem‑solving skills.
Work is performed mostly indoors. Hand‑eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and office equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, prolonged visual concentration, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and listen, and use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms.
The employee is occasionally required to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
