This position includes, but is not limited to, the following duties and responsibilities:
- Conduct desktop-level environmental screening and research using websites, technical resources, historic water quality data, watershed information, prior studies, stream characterization, and agency guidance documents.
- Utilize GIS and mapping resources to evaluate wetlands, floodplains, waterways, soils, environmental corridors, and cultural or historic resources.
- Perform water quality sampling, including infiltration testing and illicit discharge detection and elimination (IDDE) outfall inspections.
- Participate in field inspections and site visits to evaluate outfalls, stream conditions, erosion control practices, stream bank stabilization sites, wetlands, habitat conditions, invasive species, and stormwater facilities.
- Utilize mobile field technology (GPS, tablets, Survey
123, ArcGIS, or similar tools) to collect and document environmental field data. - Collect accurate field data and prepare sampling reports, datasheets, photo logs, narratives, and electronic reporting forms.
- Assist with preparation of site-specific and watershed-based studies, including municipal stormwater management, TMDL support, watershed planning, pollutant trading, and adaptive management efforts.
The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following education, experience, and abilities:
- Pursuing an Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Biology, Ecology, Natural Resources, Water Resources, or a related field
- Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and willingness to learn
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions
- Ability to collaborate and communicate with project managers and team members to ensure project success
- Basic math skills for measurements and estimations
- Valid driver’s license and insured, reliable transportation
