EssentialFunctions
- Work with homeowner property tax exemption records, including processing of applications and accurate data entry, scheduling activities/appointments, creating correspondence and documents, maintaining automated and manual spreadsheets and reports.
- Work with valuation appeals, including public interaction, to assist with the filing of appeals. Must be able to schedule hearings for appeal cases and process the Board’s decisions.
- Work with property transfer documents, including reading and understanding legal descriptions and entering property transfer data accurately into the county’s central assessment system. Need to check and code documents as they relate to State guidelines.
- Maintain confidentiality on documents reviewed.
- Answer and route phone calls.
- Comfortable with working under the pressure of deadlines.
- Frequent interaction with other County Departments, Department Heads, and Elected Officials.
- Perform Customer Service functions to include communicating with the general public, communicating exemption information; adjusting complaints, referring customers to the proper resources, supplying low to moderately technical information and or providing answers that require interpretation of a well‑defined standard and rules as set forth by the Illinois Department of Revenue’s Tax Code or the Chief County Assessment office.
- Assist with special projects.
- All other related duties as assigned.
- Gathers, organizes, analyzes, examines, and evaluates data or information.
- Gives information, guidance, or assistance.
- Uses basic algebra involving variables and formulas, basic geometry or computing discounts and interest rates.
- Reads technical instructions, charts, and/or procedure manuals; speaks compound sentences using standard grammar; composes letters using standard grammar.
- Performs coordinating work involving guidelines and rules with constant problem solving; requires continuous, close attention for accurate results or frequent exposure to unusual pressure.
- Handles machines, tools, equipment, or work aids (i.e., general office equipment, etc.) involving little or no latitude for judgment regarding attainment of standard or in selecting appropriate items.
- Requires a High school diploma or a general education degree (GED) equivalent.
- Requires none as of hire date. Expectation to complete certification for Certified Illinois Assessment Officer (CIAO) within 4 years of hire date and a willingness to maintain the continuing education requirements necessary as outlined by the Illinois Property Assessment Institute (IPAI).
- Requires some knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment; spelling, punctuation, and grammar; PC operations and software (word processing and spreadsheet), Ias World/Tyler Technologies system experience is highly desirable.
- Light work that involves walking, standing or sitting. May exert up to 25 pounds of force or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of mechanical or electronic office or shop machines or tools within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.
- The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, and speaking abilities.
