RMH Systems, one of the Midwest's largest material handling, packaging, and industrial scale distributors, is seeking a well‑organized and self‑motivated person to join our team as a maintenance technician for our scale division in Waukee, IA.

This position requires strong mechanical skills, a troubleshooting mentality, and electrical experience is a plus. In addition, applicants will need a strong work ethic, solid people skills, and the ability to work well independently and with others. We need someone with strong attention to detail, good oral and written use of the English language, and a clear, polite, and helpful personality when dealing with our customers and colleagues.

The role primarily involves servicing, doing preventative maintenance, and installing all types of industrial scales (truck, floor, and bench scales). Technicians are provided a company vehicle. This is a great career for someone looking to learn a new trade. On‑the‑job training and manufacturer training are provided. Applicants must have a CDL or be willing to obtain one within the first 90 days of employment.

Pay

Pay ranges from $20 to $35 per hour, based on experience level; in addition to the hourly wage, technicians at RMH are eligible for an annual bonus that pays out between $3,000–$8,000 based on labor billings, paid quarterly.

Primary

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Performs diagnostics, service repairs, and preventative maintenance on industrial scales in manufacturing settings, floor scales, and truck scales at our customer sites; travels to different customer locations; company truck provided.
  • Works as part of a cohesive team within the shop to meet customer needs, including assisting, mentoring, or sharing knowledge with other technicians.
  • Performs emergency repair on malfunctioning equipment at customer sites.
  • Involved in equipment installations as needed.
  • Completes annual inspection programs for customers.
  • Maintains one‑on‑one customer interaction, communicates with the customer and answers questions relative to the work being performed, and recommends additional work.
  • Works with inside sales to order replacement parts as needed.
  • Maintains knowledge of existing products and pursues additional technical and product knowledge through manufacturer training and on‑the‑job training.
  • Completes service reports explaining the reason for the call, equipment info, and work performed; also completes any required paperwork based on state regulations.
Requirements For the Position
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Associate degree in a related field preferred.
  • Two years of mechanical experience required; electrical experience preferred.
  • Ability to perform repairs and maintenance on equipment following technical manuals and diagnostic procedures.
  • Must attain State Scale Technician License within the first six months; paid training provided.
  • Valid driver’s license required, and must be eligible to drive per state law based on office location.
  • Must have a CDL or be willing to obtain one within the first 90 days.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Customer service orientation.
  • Basic computer knowledge and ability to operate diagnostic software.
  • Requires 10–20% overnight travel as needed.
