Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Cruz County. We are the first food bank in the State of California, and the second in the nation. We provide 10 million pounds of food annually to over 70,000 people per month through a network of 150-member agencies and programs. The Development Analyst is responsible for the oversight, maintenance, and optimization of the Food Bank’s donor database systems. This role ensures the accuracy and integrity of donor data while supporting fundraising, stewardship, and reporting needs. The Development Analyst collaborates closely with the Development team and the CEO to enhance donor engagement strategies, streamline processes, and provide data-driven insights to strengthen fundraising efforts.

Data Analytics and Database Management (70%)

• Maintain and oversee Second Harvest’s development database systems (Classy and Virtuous); ensuring accuracy, consistency, and security of donor records.
• Utilize analytics tools to create usable dashboards for the organization to see meaningful data at a glance.
• Develop key reports, analysis and insights to track donor trends and behavioral patterns.
• Develop and maintain standardized data entry and reporting procedures.
• Generate regular and ad hoc reports to support fundraising campaigns, donor stewardship, board reports, and financial reconciliation.
• Provide training and support to staff on database best practices, queries, and reporting tools.
• Conduct regular data hygiene, including de-duplication, address updates, and record audits.
• Stay current on emerging trends, tools, and best practices for nonprofit donor data management.

Donor Research (15%)

• Identify prospective individual and corporate gift prospects through proactive research.
• Research donor information/giving history/background/wealth to provide insight to CEO, Board or CDO.
• Manage donor search tool(s) to make prospect assignments to support effective cultivation and solicitation efforts.

Support Stewardship Activities and Events (15%)

• As assigned, represent Second Harvest with the utmost professionalism at community and networking functions (Rotary, Chamber events, and other service-based organizations), which will require occasional evening and weekends.
• Assist with special events, press conferences, speaking opportunities, food bank tours, etc. as needed including accepting and tracking RSVPs, maintaining guest lists, and assisting with set-up and post-event duties.
• Work with community team to set up and manage team pages for various year round campaigns including Holiday Food and Fund Drive.

Education and Experience: 2-4 years of experience managing a donor database or CRM system, preferably in a nonprofit setting. A BA/BS degree from an accredited educational institution, or an equivalent combination of education/ experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Ability:

• Strong technical skills with database management systems; proficiency in Microsoft Excel and reporting tools.
• Ability to take initiative, coordinate with others, meet deadlines and follow through in fast-paced environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, organization, presentation and networking skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to data integrity.
• Strong organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
