General
Purpose:
IMI is seeking a Project Engineer – Power & Utilities to support fabrication and field execution for hydroelectric, power generation, and utility infrastructure projects. This role is ideal for an engineer or fabrication professional with a strong structural or mechanical background and firsthand experience in a large structural or industrial fabrication shop.
- The Project Engineer supports engineering review, estimating, fabrication planning, quality compliance, vendor coordination, and schedule management for complex power-related projects.
- Review and interpret structural and mechanical drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
- Perform detailed material takeoffs and support estimating and quotation development.
- Support fabrication execution planning, shop scheduling, and material procurement.
- Coordinate with internal fabrication teams, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Review and support compliance with customer quality requirements and Quality Management Systems (QMS)
- Assist with inspection documentation, audits, and project turnover packages.
- Track fabrication schedules, milestones, and deliverables.
- Support field installation teams and customer coordination as required.
- Assist the Manager of Engineering & Field Services with technical and execution support.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent industry experience – Experience with PROCORE is preferred.
- Experience: 5–7 years of experience in a structural steel or industrial fabrication shop environment; mechanical or structural fabrication for power or utility facilities; or industrial or power generation project execution. Experience reviewing drawings, performing takeoffs, and supporting fabrication projects required. Estimating, vendor coordination, and quality documentation experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of structural steel and/or mechanical fabrication processes
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Familiarity with quality requirements for power, utility, or industrial clients
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project (or similar), and Adobe Acrobat
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
- Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods, including jobsite visits.
- Ability to use hands/arms for reaching, handling, and manipulating objects; manual dexterity for standard office equipment.
- Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs.; occasionally more than 50 lbs. with assistance.
- Travel to fabrication shops and job-site environments up to 50%.
