Overview
We are seeking to recruit a Band 6 Social Worker to join our fantastic multi‑disciplinary teams within Wathwood, an award‑winning forensic mental health hospital. The role involves providing assessment, risk management, care and treatment to aid recovery and further patients’ journeys.
Responsibilities- Provide high quality social work support to patients detained in a secure healthcare setting.
- Conduct initial assessments, risk assessments and care planning, and collaborate with internal and external services.
- Directly support patients and their families.
- Lead safeguarding for adults and children, including presenting social work reports to tribunals and care programme approach meetings.
- Carry a defined caseload, present essential reports in a timely and high standard manner.
- Attend all relevant clinical meetings (MRTs, CPAs, ward rounds, 117 meetings, MAPPPs, manager reviews, etc.).
- Work within the legislative framework and adhere to all trusts and directorate policies and procedures.
- Engage and liaise effectively with patients, families/carers and external agencies.
- Lead on Child and Adult Safeguarding in the MDT and oversee the Child Visiting Procedure.
- Ensure that all necessary clinical (patient) and environmental (Health & Safety) risk assessments are carried out and management plans developed in liaison with the Social Work Team Manager where necessary.
- Adhere to all Social Work and MSU Standards and provide a Social Work service to a defined patient caseload.
- Participate in regular managerial supervision and clinical supervision as required.
- Undertake other Social Work tasks as required by the Team Manager.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multi‑disciplinary team.
- Commitment to providing the highest standards of care.
- Excellent communication, motivation, supervision and role‑modelling skills.
- Experience as a social worker, preferably in a secure or forensic setting.
- High level of motivation and compassion.
- Evidence of safeguarding experience for adults and children.
Applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), deducted from salary over the first two months of employment. You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service; the annual fee is £16.
