Technical Controller

Responsibilities

• Lead, manage and develop a small team; responsible for successful supplier management, conducting supplier visits in the UK and Europe, performing product audits, managing compliance, and representing the company in industry meetings.
• Define and implement relevant policies, processes and ways of working based on depth of food legislation understanding.
• Develop collaborative relationships with wider internal and external functions to agree and drive ways of working and compliance standards.
• Maintain and develop effective quality‑assurance procedures, ensuring that all brand quality, food and product safety stage gates are met.
• Resolve product complaints and quality issues, and develop and implement an effective crisis‑management strategy.
• Guide the business on food and packaging legislative changes and best practice.
• Travel to suppliers (UK and Europe) when necessary and attend meetings with industry bodies.

• 6‑8 years of experience in a technical environment, ideally from UK food retail or a leading UK food manufacturer with exposure to retail.
• Hands‑on experience in technical, quality assurance, legislative compliance and crisis management across multiple food categories, with experience managing the impact of food legislation on products.
• Managed at least one direct report and demonstrated leadership and development of team members.
• Experience with packaging and current legislation.
• Strong relationship‑management skills, both internally and externally.
• Experience with supplier audits and specifications, ideally retailer specifications and audits.
• HACCP Level 4 certification.
• Excellent relationship‑building, communication and influencing skills.

Excellent package – circa £65,000 per annum plus car allowance, 20% bonus and benefits.
