Band 7- Sickle Cell Clinical Nurse Specialist, Haematology

Overview

West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust invites applications for a Sickle Cell CNS, Band 7. The role is a secondment until 31st January 2027, working within the haematology team to provide expert, patient‑centred care and support the Trust’s clinical leadership.

• Provide timely and effective assessment and triage of patients presenting with sickle cell crisis.
• Offer expert clinical advice, support and guidance to patients, carers and allied healthcare professionals.
• Deliver timely clinical decision‑making and interventions, escalating as required.
• Collaborate with haematologists, ward and bed managers, and nursing staff to facilitate timely admission, discharge planning and nurse‑led discharges.
• Serve as a clinical role model and resource, demonstrating high standards of care and offering clinical leadership within the specialist area.
• Promote good clinical practice in line with evidence‑based guidelines and policies.
• Maintain liaison with A&E staff and other MDT members to optimise smooth treatment pathways for ambulatory care triage patients.
• Develop and run nurse‑led clinics.
• Educate patients about their condition to enable informed choices.
