Overview
A Vacancy at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. An exciting opportunity for enthusiastic and highly motivated Healthcare Support Workers to join our Emergency Medicine Division as part of the Transfer Team.
In this role, you will support patient flow by assisting clinical staff with the safe and timely transfer of patients across the hospital. You will also work closely with the multidisciplinary team, providing practical support and undertaking a variety of tasks as required.

- Foster professional relationships with colleagues within the multi‑disciplinary team and external agencies to enhance collaborative efforts across various wards, departments, and hospitals.
- Assist senior staff in transfers in and out of the department and assist in meeting targets set by the trust.
- Act as a role model.
- Serve in a role appropriate, coordinate service to patients.
- Undertake duties outside your working area (e.g., delivery and collection) to assist in maintaining good communication.
- Play an integral role in delivery of basic clinical care, supporting registered nurses, doctors and allied health professionals.
- Actively participate as part of the multi‑disciplinary team providing seamless service to patients under supervision of a registered nurse/practitioner.
- Complete ward transfers in a timely manner.
- Carry out limited range of clinical duties: blood pressure monitoring, oxygen saturation levels, temperature checks, pulse rate checks, respiration rate, glucose monitoring, collection and testing of urine samples, collection of faecal samples, sputum samples, wound samples, removal of peripheral cannula, maintenance of patient hygiene, washing/bathing, mouthcare, feeding and ensuring delivery of high quality patient care at all times.
Shifts will cover 7 days per week – Monday to Sunday, days, nights and Bank Holidays. We cannot accommodate set shift patterns, day or night only shifts. If you cannot commit to the working pattern, we recommend applying to join NHS Professionals.
