Assistant Accountant

Location: Watford – Office based role 5 days a week

Type: Full-time, Permanent

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join our finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with solid accounting fundamentals who is looking to develop their career in a fast-paced commercial environment. The successful candidate will support the Financial Controller and play a key role in the day-to-day finance operations of the business.

• Assisting with weekly cash flow reporting and payment runs
• Monitoring and managing the Accounts inbox
• Posting Sales and Purchase Invoices and Credit Notes onto Sage
• Supporting monthly and quarterly close processes
• Ensuring invoices and documents are authorised in line with company procedures
• Checking bank statements and updating the cashbook for all currencies, including e-commerce sales
• Preparing monthly Balance Sheet reconciliations
• Performing VAT reconciliations
• Preparing and maintaining various monthly Excel worksheets
• Assisting with monthly cash flow preparation
• Supporting the annual budgeting process
• Providing support to the Financial Controller
• Carrying out ad-hoc finance tasks as required

• Minimum 2+ years’ experience within finance, either in a commercial accounts role or within an accounting practice (e.g. auditing firm)
• Strong knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping
• Good Excel skills are essential
• Experience using Sage 200 or a similar accounting package
• Strong work ethic with enthusiasm and a proactive approach
• Ability to work to strict deadlines with strong attention to detail
• Comfortable collaborating with other members of the team
• Experience working with ERP systems
• Advanced Excel skills including VLOOKUPs and Pivot Tables
