Overview

The Financial Controller will be responsible for financial control, finance operations, and reporting to the leadership team and stakeholders.

This role is suited to someone with experience in the construction or related industries who is looking to work in an entrepreneurial business environment. In addition to building and developing the finance function, the Financial Controller will play a key role in supporting the continued growth of the business, including involvement in multiple projects requiring financial oversight.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the transactional finance team and oversee/review sales ledger, purchase ledger, payroll, cash posting, and general ledger entries.
  • Coordinate and direct the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts, reporting variances.
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Ensure financial processes, systems, and controls are operating effectively.
  • Maintain statutory records for the business.
  • Prepare consolidated statutory accounts and management account packs.
  • Handle VAT, PAYE, corporation tax, and other tax duties.
  • Liaise with auditors and prepare audit packs.
  • Project manage process changes and software/system implementations.
  • Work with budget holders to prepare and manage departmental budgets.
  • Liaise with external payroll providers, with the potential to bring payroll in-house.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant financial systems, procedures, and regulations.
  • Prepare weekly performance reports, including debtors, creditors, cash flow, invoicing, and collections.
  • Implement weekly project costing and margin reports, liaising with project managers to review.
  • Maintain tracking reports for project applications, valuations, and payment certificates, following up as required.
  • Perform any other duties as required by the MD or CFO.
Requirements
  • Fully qualified accountant (ACCA / CIMA / ACA / CA).
  • Experience with Xero or similar accounting software.
  • Knowledge of payment application processes.
  • Experience with in the construction or related industries.
  • Experience managing software/system implementations.
  • Strong commercial acumen and aspiration to progress to Finance Director level.
