Job Description & How to Apply Below
A specialist SEMH school in Watford is looking for a confident Behaviour Mentor to support pupils who benefit from structure, routine and consistent adult support.
The school supports boys who may struggle in mainstream education and require additional support with social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH), behaviour regulation and engagement with learning. The successful Behaviour Mentor will work closely with teachers and pastoral staff helping pupils remain engaged during lessons while maintaining clear expectations in the classroom.
In settings like this, the Behaviour Mentor often becomes the key adult in the room. Students respond best to adults who remain calm, communicate clearly and build respectful relationships while keeping boundaries consistent.
The role will involve
• Supporting pupils during lessons and structured classroom activities
• Helping pupils regulate behaviour and stay engaged with learning
• Building positive relationships with students
• Working alongside teachers and pastoral teams
• Supporting pupils with SEMH needs and barriers to learning
This role works particularly well for
• Behaviour Mentors
• Youth Workers
• Sports Coaches
• Teaching Assistants
• Support Workers
• Psychology Graduates
Candidates with experience working with young people, challenging behaviour, alternative provision or PRU settings are particularly suited to this role.
Schools value individuals who bring
• A calm and confident presence in the classroom
• Clear communication and consistent boundaries
• The ability to build trust with pupils
• Reliability and professionalism
An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service is highly desirable.
This is a long-term opportunity within a specialist SEN environment with supportive staff teams and structured support in place. It is well suited to Behaviour Mentors or Youth Workers looking to build experience within SEMH education while making a genuine difference to pupils who benefit from strong mentorship and guidance
