Teaching Assistant

Specialist SEN schools in Watford are looking for dedicated SEN Teaching Assistants to support pupils with Autism (ASC) and additional learning needs.

These schools provide structured, supportive environments where pupils benefit from clear routines, calm communication and consistent adult support. The role of the SEN Teaching Assistant is central to helping pupils feel settled, confident and able to access learning throughout the school day.

Working closely with teachers and SEN staff, you will support pupils either 1:1 or in small groups, helping them engage with classroom activities while developing communication, independence and social skills.

Key responsibilities

• Supporting pupils with Autism during lessons and structured classroom activities

• Providing 1:1 and small group support to help pupils access learning

• Encouraging communication, interaction and engagement

• Supporting behaviour positively while maintaining routine and structure

• Working closely with teachers, therapists and SEN teams

• Individuals with Autism or complex needs experience

Experience supporting ASC, ASD, SLD or complex needs is highly beneficial.
