Job Overview:

The Floor Technician is responsible for maintaining clean, safe, and attractive floors throughout the long-term care facility. This role supports a healthy environment for residents, staff, and visitors by performing routine and deep-cleaning floor care tasks while adhering to infection control, safety, and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform routine and periodic floor care, including stripping, waxing, buffing, burnishing, and refinishing floors.

  • Clean and maintain various floor surfaces such as vinyl, tile, linoleum, carpet, and other specialty flooring.

  • Operate floor care equipment safely and effectively (e.g., auto scrubbers, buffers, burnishers, extractors).

  • Follow proper chemical usage, dilution, and storage guidelines in accordance with facility policies and safety regulations.

  • Maintain infection control standards, especially in resident care areas.

  • Identify and report floor damage, safety hazards, or maintenance needs to the supervisor.

  • Assist with general housekeeping duties as needed (e.g., cleaning spills, emergency cleanups).

  • Ensure work areas are properly secured with signage to prevent slips, trips, and falls.

  • Maintain cleaning equipment in good working condition and report malfunctions.

  • Follow all facility policies, OSHA guidelines, and state and federal regulations.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

  • Previous floor care or housekeeping experience preferred; healthcare or long-term care experience a plus.

  • Knowledge of floor care techniques, equipment, and cleaning chemicals.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and safety.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

  • Manual dexterity to operate cleaning equipment and tools.

Work Environment
  • Healthcare/long-term care setting with exposure to cleaning chemicals and equipment.

  • May require evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call coverage as needed.
