Primary Care Clinic - Patient Access Representative Position Summary
Collects and verifies all patient demographical and financial information while adhering to ethical and legal standards and recognizing and responding to emergencies while demonstrating professional characteristics.
This is a full-time position (1.0 status/40 hours per week).
Responsibilities- Registers and admits patients by obtaining relevant patient demographic and insurance information.
- Greets and provides information to patients and visitors.
- Directs patients and visitors to the desired destination.
- Schedules clinic appointments for patients.
- Retrieves patient medical information from referring provider if applicable.
- Answers questions from patients regarding insurance, billing, and account balances.
- Refers patients to Patient Accounts as necessary.
- Collects and posts payments for services.
- Other duties may be assigned.
- Pursues professional growth through educational opportunities, professional reading, and seeking learning opportunities.
- Assures cost and time efficiency of the department by maintaining maximum productivity and cost-effectiveness.
- Promotes good interpersonal relationships through effective communication.
- Abides by the philosophy, mission, and objectives of Prairie Lakes Healthcare System and follows organization policies and procedures.
- Actively participates in health care system programs based upon safety, continuous quality improvement, and infection control.
- Maintains confidentiality of all information pertaining to customers, patients, residents, employees, physicians, and their affairs.
- Demonstrates a positive image of Prairie Lakes Healthcare System by applying effective human relations skills with customers, patients, visitors, other employees, and physicians.
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience. Six months prior hospital/medical or general office experience is required. Previous patient registration and computer experience are desirable.
