The Prep Cook plays a critical role in the daily execution and financial performance of Buttermilk & Bourbon
. This position is responsible for producing all foundational food components that allow service to run smoothly, consistently, and profitably. Prep cooks are expected to execute prep lists with speed and precision, uphold all recipe standards, maintain immaculate organization in all storage areas, and anticipate the needs of the line before problems arise.

Core Responsibilities Daily Prep Execution
  • Follow all standardized prep recipes and batch guides exactly — no shortcuts.
  • Accurately prepare sauces, stocks, proteins, vegetables, garnishes, and specialty items.
  • Complete assigned prep lists within required time frames.
  • Label, date, rotate, and store all products using FIFO.
  • Maintain tight portion control to protect food cost.
Organization & Par Levels
  • Maintain clean, organized prep stations and walk-ins.
  • Track pars and alert Chef/Manager when items are running low.
  • Assist with inventory counts and prep forecasting.
  • Identify waste patterns and communicate issues immediately.
Food Safety & Cleanliness
  • Follow Serv Safe standards at all times.
  • Maintain proper holding temperatures and storage procedures.
  • Execute daily cleaning tasks including equipment breakdown, sanitizing prep surfaces, and dish area support as needed.
  • Report equipment issues or safety hazards immediately.
Team Support
  • Support line cooks during heavy prep days or unexpected volume.
  • Communicate clearly with chefs and managers regarding prep completion and shortages.
  • Step into dish when needed.
Qualifications
  • Kitchen experience preferred
  • Strong knife skills and basic cooking fundamentals.
  • Ability to follow written recipes and production guides.
  • Comfortable working early mornings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs and remain on feet for long periods.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and dependable.
Physical Requirements
  • Standing for extended periods.
  • Repetitive chopping, lifting, bending, and reaching.
  • Exposure to hot equipment, cold storage, and wet surfaces.
