Position: Senior Bicycle Mechanic / Assistant Service Manager

We are looking for an experienced Bike Mechanic who can be a leader in our extremely busy service department. Proficiency in current bicycle technology and bicycle parts as well as a proactive and problem‑solving attitude are qualities at the top of our list.

  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience working as a mechanic in a bicycle shop is a requirement for this position.
  • Compensation is based on prior experience and skill level and mechanical aptitude.
Duties

In this job you will assist our Service Manager, simultaneously and independently, with the following:

  • Perform a variety of service functions on customers' bikes, including tune‑ups, rebuilds, flat tire repairs, brake/shift adjustments, brake bleeds etc.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot and resolve problems on bikes that are brought in for service.
  • Work directly with customers to communicate what will be needed and cost to complete the repair
  • Assemble and prepare new bikes for sale
  • Install accessories on recently purchased bikes
  • Provide customer service through direct and detailed interaction with customers at time of drop off and/or pickup following Farina's protocols.
Requirements
  • Minimum 1 year experience working as a technician/mechanic in a professional bike shop.
  • Must be familiar with and comfortable working on a variety of bikes with older and newer technologies including caliper/disc/hydraulic brakes, friction/indexed/electronic shifting, tubeless tires, and a basic knowledge of electric bike hub motors.
  • Capable of perfectly assembling entry-level and mid-level bicycles
  • Interest in working in a team environment committed to providing an exceptional customer experience
  • Strong attention to detail and directions
  • Ability to clearly communicate with other employees and customers in a professional manner
  • Interest in developing own skills, knowledge and career as a professional tradesperson
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule based on seasonal business needs, which includes working on most Saturdays in the spring and summer.
  • Ability to lift bicycles, e-bikes and boxes that weigh between 20-70 pounds

Nice to Haves

We welcome candidates that have prior experience as a Bicycle Service Writer, which would include proficiency in the following:

  • Thoroughly inspect & diagnose a bicycle that is brought in for service.
  • Properly estimate the cost for parts and labor based on diagnosis
  • Clearly communicate with customer and schedule the work
  • Take in customer contact information/data entry
