Position Summary
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides individualized, 1:1 hygiene-related support to an assigned student during the school day. Under the supervision of the Director of Student Services and the School Principal and in collaboration with special education staff, the CNA ensures the student’s personal care needs are met in a manner that promotes dignity, safety, and access to the educational environment, in accordance with the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) and hygiene care plan.
Qualifications
- Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in the state of employment.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Experience working with children, preferably in a school or pediatric setting.
- Knowledge of hygiene care procedures and infection control practices.
- Ability to follow written and verbal care instructions.

- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
- Physical ability to assist with hygiene-related tasks, including lifting and positioning as needed.
- Ability to respond appropriately to routine hygiene-related concerns.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 hygiene-related care to an assigned student as outlined in the student’s care plan.
- Assist with personal hygiene needs, which may include toileting, diapering, changing, handwashing, grooming, and clothing changes.
- Maintain student dignity, privacy, and respect during all hygiene-related activities.
- Follow infection control procedures, universal precautions, and district health protocols.
- Monitor and report any concerns related to the student’s hygiene needs (e.g., skin integrity, rashes, or signs of discomfort) to the School Nurse.
- Support hygiene-related transitions as needed throughout the school day, collaborate with the School Nurse, special education staff, and administration to ensure consistency and compliance with care plans.
- Document hygiene care provided as required by the School Nurse or district procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA, HIPAA (as applicable), and district policies.
- Participate in required training related to student hygiene, safety, and compliance.
- Perform other related duties as assigned that directly support student hygiene, safety, and completing academic tasks/learning.
School Setting, including classrooms, restrooms, and other designated care areas.
Work Schedule and Pay
7:35am - 2:35 pm, Monday through Friday
Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
