Position: Full Time - Tax Clerk/Bookkeeper 1

The Town of Watertown seeks candidates for the following position:

TAX COLLECTOR’S OFFICE 35 HOURS PER WEEK THE POSITION

Provides exceptional customer service in person and on the telephone on a recurring basis. Performs administrative clerical work in the billing, collection, and crediting of payments for taxes. May perform other related duties as required. Receives general supervision from the Tax Collector and task supervision from the Assistant Tax Collector.

Salary Range

$42,.92. The Town has discretion to hire within the salary ranges depending upon an individual’s qualifications, skills, abilities and years of experience. At its sole discretion, the Town may also make individual salary adjustments to up to five percent (5%) above the maximum rate set.

REQUIREMENTS
  • A working knowledge of money handling, clerical, and record-keeping procedures.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and visual or schedule form.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, and to compute ratios, rates, and percentages.
  • Ability to respect confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Must have good phone etiquette, written and interpersonal communication skills, and be able to relate to staff and the public in a positive manner.
  • Must be bondable in accordance with the General Statutes of the State of Connecticut.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of one year of clerical and cash/check handling experience.

EXAMINATION

Oral interview.
