The Maintenance I position is responsible for performing scheduled preventive maintenance on equipment throughout the hospital. Responsible for general mechanical, electrical and plumbing task, inspections, monitoring activities, servicing, making repairs and overhaul of equipment and facilities. Plan, organize and complete complex projects. Serves as a subject matter expert, with little to no supervision, in areas such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, etc.
Works closely with Department Management to assist with daily planning of lower-level projects.

Responsibilities- Repair pipes, fittings, and plumbing fixtures to maintain the heating, water, gas and drainage systems throughout the hospital as assigned.
- Responds to fire alarms with all-purpose fire extinguishers; responds to disaster alerts and drills; maintains internal security and continuation of utilities during these emergencies.
- Assist other trade personnel as needed in handling materials on major repair or installation projects.
- Consults with supervisor concerning assignments and keeps supervisor informed of activities, needs and problems.
Education:
- High school graduate or equivalent required
Licensure/Certification:
- Valid Iowa driver’s license for at least three years with an acceptable or clear rating according to the Motor Vehicle Record chart required (see below).
- Must have a minimum of two years driving experience with no record of DUI, DWI, or similar alcohol or drug related offenses over the past five years.
- No record of reckless driving, careless driving, speeding over 15 miles above the speed limit, fleeing or eluding a police officer, chemical test refusal, leaving the scene of an accident, driving after revocation or suspension, or passing a stopped school bus in the last five years.
Other:
- Able to operate manual and automatic transmission vehicles.
- Basic computer Knowledge using word processing, spreadsheet, email and web browser.
- Use of basic hand tools and power equipment.
