Our Nursing program is seeking a full-time, nine-month faculty member to provide high quality Nursing instruction through various methods of delivery, labs and clinical rotations.

Our Nursing program students build a strong foundation of skills and competencies needed to be successful in today’s fast-paced medical environment.

Students are guided with support from our faculty which possess both the necessary academic credentials and industry experience within their respective disciplines.

Our Nursing program prepares students in a variety of settings including our on-site laboratory/clinical setting that is fully equipped to prepare them for patient care. This includes our multimillion-dollar, state-of-the-art simulation center complete with Pyxis station, Docucare EMR system, IV simulators, and eight basic and advanced interactive patient simulators including adult, pediatric, neonatal, and maternal models.

As a Nursing Instructor, your teaching assignments may include days and evenings, and various sites and formats (face-to-face, on-line) and has a typical teaching load of 15 credit hours per term. Instructional courses may include courses such as: didactic delivery, critical lab sessions, the use of SIM, and assigned clinical rotations.

Hawkeye Community College provides a two-year faculty induction & mentoring program to support our newest faculty members and is focused on providing well developed training opportunities in response to the current healthcare shortage. Our Nursing program has the ability to make a huge impact on its students and the community through our dedicated and experienced nursing team.

Essential Job Functions

Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Prepares daily instructional plans and materials.

  • Employs various instructional modalities, methods and materials that are appropriate for meeting stated objectives, assessing accomplishments of students on a regular basis, and providing progress reports as requested and required.

  • Formulates and maintains curriculum for assigned courses.

  • Supervises, recruits and advises students.

  • Maintains positive relationships with faculty, students, all divisions of the college as well as the program’s Advisory Committee, prospective employers, and the community.

  • Offers a safe and supportive learning environment while encouraging learning and problem solving.

  • Committed to promoting diversity and inclusion

  • Participates in campus committees as assigned.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Unless otherwise approved, regular on campus and/or onsite attendance is considered an essential function of the position.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing with progression towards a Master’s degree in Nursing.

  • Minimum of three-years (3) of recent practical work experience in nursing

  • Registered Nurse with a current, unencumbered license in Iowa or Iowa eligible

  • Familiar in role as preceptor of nursing students

  • Knowledge of instruction in educational theory and techniques.

  • Demonstrated ability to use motivational skills and engage students in the learning process from all backgrounds and educational experiences.

  • Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new and current technical skills and ideas.

  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills.

  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills to positively interact with students, faculty, and staff.

  • Demonstrated ability and motivation to work with a wide array of faculty, staff, students, and the general public in a professional and personable manner.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing or higher.

  • Minimum of three-years (3) of practical work experience.

  • Minimum of two-years (2) serving as preceptor/faculty member.

  • Skilled in specialty areas associated with nursing (Mental Health, ER, OR, Med Surg, etc.).
