Organizes and conducts medically prescribed physical therapy programs in the hospital to restore function and prevent disability following disease, injury, or loss of body part. Helps patients reach their maximum performance and assume a place in society while learning to live within the limits of their capabilities.

Responsibilities
Consistently applies therapeutic principles and practices.Formulates realistic and appropriate short- and long-term goals.Adapts conventional treatment techniques to meet patient needs.Involves patients and families in program and treatment decisions and plans.Terminates treatment appropriately with discharge plans.Shows sensitivity to cultural backgrounds.Maintains timely and accurate documentation in accordance with department policy.Regularly assesses needs and provides patients and families with educational materials and resources.Actively participates in CQI/performance improvement initiatives, including inpatient FIM and outpatient Lifeware.Participates in departmental student programs.Meets performance expectations for customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and staff and self-development as outlined in performance reviews.Performs other duties as assigned to ensure smooth department operations.Monitors own schedule and follows up with appropriate staff as needed.Applies orthopedic principles and assessment techniques during evaluation and treatment.Provides patients with home exercise plans, maintains copies in patient charts, and documents compliance and understanding.Identifies the need for splints and utilizes departmental resources to address patient needs efficiently and cost-effectively.Identifies the need for wound care and utilizes departmental resources accordingly.Demonstrates understanding and working knowledge of departmental modalities.Maintains productivity at departmental standards.Qualifications
Education: BS or MS in Physical Therapy
Experience: Previous experience in hospital-based or outpatient facilities is helpful.
Licensure: Valid licensure by the State of Connecticut Division of Medical Quality Assurance. BLS certification required.
