Job Summary

This is the entry level into the Nuclear Chemistry Technician series. Incumbents will participate in classroom and practical training, maintaining acceptable academic standards throughout the program. Employees new to the role will receive training in station orientation, chemical sampling procedures, gas and water testing methods, and the review of periodic tests. They will learn basic chemistry fundamentals, appropriate use of human performance tools, and basic laboratory practices such as pH, conductivity, and balance operation.

Responsibilities
  • Collect chemical samples from various plant systems and perform gas and water tests as part of the training program.
  • Perform basic chemical tests and analyses to determine the presence and activity levels of radiation, gases, acids, bases, salts, and metals.
  • Operate and maintain the online chemical monitoring system, add chemicals to plant systems to maintain integrity, and track and enter data analysis information into the mainframe computer.
  • Maintain and calibrate data recording devices.
  • Assist in collection from primary and secondary plant systems, ensuring proper chemistry to prevent corrosion and technical specification violations.
  • Fulfill duties as directed for the Station Emergency Plan, including obtaining and maintaining required ERO/SERO qualifications, participating in ERO/SERO exercises and drills, and responding to ERO/SERO call‑in drills.
Qualifications
  • 0–2 years of directly related experience, or one year each of college‑level mathematics (pre‑calculus), chemistry, and physics (United States Navy Engineering Laboratory Technician).
  • Demonstrated aptitude in fundamental elements of science and mathematics.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and within a team; ability to work under adverse environmental conditions (e.g., high temperatures).
Education Requirements
  • Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience (preferred: Mathematics, Chemistry, Science). Other disciplines may be substituted.
Licenses, Certifications, or Qualifications

Must obtain and maintain required ERO/SERO qualifications. ANSI/ANS‑3.1‑2014, Section 4.5.3.1, 4.5.3.2 and 4.5.3.3.

Education Requirements:

HS diploma;

Minimum experience:

2 years related experience;
Nuclear Power Plant

Experience:

1 year. This position is part of a formal training program whereby the candidate/employee will not meet the full ANSI requirements until completion.

Dominion Energy minimum requirements may exceed stated ANSI standards and candidates must meet the Dominion Energy minimum requirements.
