ABOUT THIS PROGRAM

The Durational Credible Messenger program is a community-based mentoring approach where individuals with shared lived experiences, particularly those with past involvement in the justice system, mentor and support high risk young people aged 13‑18. This program leverages the Messenger's credibility and understanding of the community to foster positive change in the mentee.

ABOUT THIS POSITION

The Durational Credible Messenger provides guidance, support, and role‑modeling to help youth navigate challenges, develop positive behaviors, and make healthier choices. They will hold a caseload of three to four youth and families and provide intensive monitoring, facilitate skill‑building lessons, empower families, and provide advocacy.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop a therapeutic mentoring relationship with youth
  • Provide group‑based skill‑building lessons and activities
  • Connect youth with pro‑social activities and encourage community involvement
  • Help clients and families obtain proper educational support
  • Keep in regular communication with Probation Officer
  • Submit monthly written progress notes
  • Complete individual service plan and discharge summary documentation
  • Be accessible as needed to youth and families, including 24/7 access for crisis intervention
SCHEDULE AND RATE OF PAY
  • Monday‑Friday 40 hours per week
  • – 9:00am‑5:00pm 3 days per week
  • – 10:00am‑6:00pm 2 days per week
  • – Flexible according to client needs
  • Rate of pay is $21.22 per hour (equal to $44,138 per year)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS
  • High School Diploma/GED – Required
  • Must be at least 21 years of age with a valid Driver's License – Required
  • Personal experience with the justice system, involvement with the local community, or overcoming significant life challenges – Required
    • We believe that lived experience can be a powerful tool in mentoring and supporting youth facing similar circumstances.
  • Skill in advocacy and crisis intervention
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus but not required
  • Communication proficiency
  • Collaboration skills
