We are recruiting new graduate nurses for a 12‑month, fully paid residency program designed to transition newly licensed nurses into clinical practice in orthopedics and neurology. The program begins in Summer 2025.
Schedule36 hours per week, rotating days and nights every other weekend.

The registered nurse in the Med/Surg unit uses the nursing process to diagnose and treat patient responses, guaranteeing quality care for adults, geriatrics, and occasional adolescents. Responsibilities include clinical care, documentation, teamwork, quality improvement, and professional development under the guidance of the Assistant Director.
Responsibilities- Develop and implement a plan of care, leading to meet patient and family needs. Monitor patients before, during, and after surgery or procedures, ensuring safe, efficient care.
- Execute physician orders, nursing interventions, and procedures as required.
- Maintain up‑to‑date, accurate documentation to support team collaboration and quality care.
- Foster effective working relationships, cooperatively advance departmental goals, and participate in the Quality Improvement Program.
- Engage in continuous professional development to stay current with practice advances.
- Perform additional related duties as necessary.
Waterbury Hospital provides new graduate nurses the opportunity to participate in a 12‑month support‑paid residency program. Nurses are hired into a specialty area with one‑on‑one preceptor training, classroom learning, and the development of an evidence‑based teaching project.
Eligibility- All newly licensed RNs (NCLEX‑completed, active CT RN license) with less than one year of nursing experience.
- Recent graduate of an accredited nursing school (senior students encouraged to apply pre‑graduation).
- Active State of CT RN license (new graduates may begin after NCLEX pass).
- Preferred medical‑surgical experience; intravenous therapy experience (starting IVs) preferred.
- Strong communication skills; ability to work in interdisciplinary and time‑oriented environments.
- Physical ability to lift, pull patients, push stretchers, and stand/walk for extended periods. Willingness to wear a lead apron.
- Competence in performing strengthening and toning exercises.
- Professional confidentiality and patient interaction etiquette.
- Basic computer skills and ability to access hospital systems.
- Capability to perform automated functions related to job responsibilities.
