Position: Facilities Assistant (Monday - Friday 9 am - 5 pm)

Description

Mental Health Connecticut (MHC) is a statewide not for profit provider agency that partners with individuals, their families, and the surrounding communities to create environments that support long-term health and wellness.

MHC has an immediate full-time opening (Monday - Friday, first shift hours based on organizational need, 37.50 hour work-week) for a Facilities Assistant within Waterbury area. The Facilities Assistant is responsible for assisting the Facilities Coordinator in maintaining the buildings and grounds of MHC, overseeing the upkeep of equipment and supplies, performing maintenance and custodial tasks, and assisting the GROW program with maintenance and set-up needs at MHC statewide programs including Waterbury, Stamford, Bridgeport, Danbury Torrington, West Hartford, and Farmington.

Salary:

$20.00 per hour. MHC offers a competitive benefits package which includes:

Requirements

The Facilities Assistant responsibilities include:

  • Performs a variety of work in the maintenance and repair of buildings and grounds at various MHC facilities statewide including doors/locks, light plumbing, painting, grounds maintenance; general repairs and upkeep on floors, bathrooms, walls, performs minor troubleshooting, sets up and removes seasonal a/c units, moves furniture, file boxes, and equipment, organize storage sites, completes service requests and updates work logs for completed work;

    removes and responds to safety hazards.
  • Maintains the cleanliness and orderliness of buildings and facilities, performing tasks like, but not limited to: sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning restrooms, and emptying trash receptacles, ensuring grounds areas are clean and orderly. Able to independently use equipment and/or tools required to perform maintenance and custodial tasks.
  • Manage cleaning supplies and equipment.
  • Ensure cleaning, upkeep, and safety standards are maintained or efficiencies are discovered.
  • Participate independently and as part of a team at least two times a year in deep cleanings of statewide program buildings and facilities.
  • Assist the greenhouse program by performing landscape and horticultural maintenance, including manual labor or transporting of materials as needed.
  • Willing and able to drive a personal vehicle locally and within the state to business sites.
Experience/

Education:
  • High School diploma/GED required.
  • Prior experience with facilities maintenance / handyperson / janitorial work preferred.
  • Ability to work with hardware, tools, and power equipment.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  • Valid driver's license, auto registration, and insurance.
  • Applicable certification preferred i.e. Recovery Assistant certificate, blood borne pathogens, or other infection control certificate.
