As a Wastewater Operator, you’ll join a collaborative team ensuring that our clients can deliver their services – uninterrupted. Based in Waterbury, CT, you’ll perform a variety of tasks in the operation of a wastewater treatment plant. You’ll contribute to the success of our program with operating the Waterbury’s Water Pollution Control Facility during second shift (2:30 pm to 10:30 pm) to meet environmental and safety standards.
Most importantly, you’ll take action to ensure the safety, health and well‑being of you and your team.
- Conduct regular tours of the plant and surrounding grounds, including but not limited to routine observation of wastewater conditions, containment structures, and associated equipment such as aeration tanks and settling clarifiers
- Collect and test wastewater samples
- Assist with daily operation of wastewater treatment systems
- Perform basic maintenance and cleaning of equipment
- Monitor gauges, meters, and control panels
- Clean and maintain equipment, tanks, and other work areas
- Work with the Chief Operator, Shift Operator and Managers of the facility to address safety issues, maintain proper plant appearance, address environmental issues, and ensure compliance with regulations and permits pertaining wastewater discharges, pollution prevention, nitrogen, stormwater, generator use and other federal and state regulations
- Class I or Class II wastewater operator license issued by the CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection
- Experience operating a wastewater treatment facility
- Experience with sound safety principles and practices
- Understanding and experience with wastewater processes, SCADA, data management and reporting
- Driver’s license with no major infractions
- Basic knowledge of the principles and tools employed in the general operation of pumps, valves, motors, related equipment, and general maintenance work
- Knowledge of computer software including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, HACH WIMS, and data management
- Analytical and critical thinking skills with ability to diagnose process and mechanical problems; determine root cause and take corrective action

The base salary range for this position is $62,400.00 to $70,720.00; though will be paid hourly based on hours worked. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
