OverviewThe Department of Music at the University of North Carolina Wilmington is seeking a nine-month tenure‑track position as Assistant or Associate Professor of Piano, starting August 2026.
This is an opportunity to join a faculty of teaching artists and scholars who are dedicated to student‑centered learning and to growth in new and current programs. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellence in teaching and recruiting, engagement in significant creative/scholarly activities, and an ability to work effectively with faculty colleagues across all degree areas.
Responsibilities- Teach applied piano lessons to undergraduate majors and minors, including weekly master classes.
- Teach undergraduate courses in piano pedagogy and literature, and chamber music.
- Coordinate the piano area.
- Maintain active engagement with regional piano teachers, schools, and professional organizations to support recruitment and program visibility.
- Perform other departmental duties as assigned by the chair.
- Provide student mentoring, committee work, and contribute to an inclusive and equitable community in the department, college, and university.
- Teach courses in a secondary area (Music Theory, Music History, Music Appreciation, etc.) as needed.
Minimum
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Doctorate in Music (DMA or PhD) with an emphasis in Piano Performance or Piano Pedagogy at time of application.
- Experience and expertise in teaching applied piano at the college/university level.
- Evidence of ongoing performance activity.
- Successful record of student recruitment and studio development.
Preferred Education, Knowledge,
Skills & Experience:
- Demonstrated excellence in both solo and chamber performance.
- Evidence of success as an applied instructor at the collegiate level within a liberal arts curriculum.
- Evidence of community engagement.
- Experience in teaching in a secondary area (Music Theory, Music History, Music Appreciation, etc.).
- Evidence of strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
