The Opportunity
Portland Tractor Inc. is looking for an experienced Lead Welder to join our team in Washougal, Washington. As the Lead Welder, you will perform high-quality welding and fabrication work while providing day-to-day technical leadership within the weld bay, ensuring work is performed to PTI’s safety and quality standards.
As the Lead Welder, your key responsibilities will include:
- Perform welding and fabrication work on heavy equipment components, including structural and crack repairs, build-ups, and modifications
- Serve as the day-to-day lead for the weld bay, coordinating work assignments and priorities in alignment with shop schedules
- Interpret work from repair scopes, drawings, and work tickets
- Verify weld quality, penetration, and fitment
- Assist with complex or high-risk repairs and provide technical guidance to other welders
- Assist with tracking job status, labor hours, and completion timelines
- Mentor and train welders on proper techniques, safety practices, and quality standards
- Participate in root-cause analysis for weld failures, rework, or warranty issues
- Participate in safety audits and ensure cranes, welders, grinders, and related equipment are used properly and safely
Required Skills & Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills, knowledge, and competencies:
- At least 5 years of welding experience with heavy equipment components
- Fabrication experience is a strong asset
- Welding certification is a strong asset
- Strong ability to read and interpret drawings, scopes, and repair instructions
- Demonstrated leadership or mentorship experience in a shop environment
- High attention to detail, quality, and safety
- Ability to coordinate work and communicate effectively across departments

The base pay range for this role is: $30 to $35 per hour, depending on experience.
This is an onsite role based in Washougal, Washington.
