JOB DESCRIPTION

Bus Driver

Department:
Transportation

UNION EXEMPT:

REPORTS TO:

Transportation Supervisor

WORK DAYS: 4 days per week; except for non-school days; 160 days per year; 4.5 hours per day.

Position Summary

Responsible for providing safe transportation for students between pick up/drop off points and school. The driver maintains order during trips and must adhere to all safety rules when loading and unloading pupils.

DUTIES:

  • Drives a bus on assigned routes in a legal and safe manner.
  • Drivers will also be working with building principals in the area of discipline
  • Instructs students and teachers in emergency bus evacuation procedures.
  • Conducts emergency bus evacuation drills.
  • Instructs students in proper bus conduct.
  • Reports misconduct on bus through established district procedures.
  • Conducts pre-trip and post-trip bus inspection to insure all parts are operating and the bus is safe.
  • Fuels bus as needed.
  • Cleans the interior of the bus daily
  • Cleans the exterior of bus as needed.
  • Completes daily log forms and other required paper work accurately and promptly.
  • Report all bus mechanical deficiencies to the mechanic
  • Other related duties as assigned.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees or organizations.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
