Purpose Statement

Are you passionate about helping and supporting teens in school and want summers off? The student assistance professional (SAP) has the unique opportunity to develop positive relationships with students and provide prevention and early intervention services to promote student wellness. The SAP provides individual and group counseling support to students impacted by substance use, mental health, and trauma. You will also have an opportunity to be part of a unique team of professionals who meet weekly to support one another, come together for professional growth and to network with one another.

This position will serve Wellpinit High School. This position is 7.5 hours per day, Monday-Friday, for 190 days following the typical school schedule.

Functions
  • Collects and evaluates data for the purpose of improving school climate and student success.
  • Collects and interprets data for the purpose of determining appropriate programs for implementation and referral.
  • Conducts screenings, interventions, and referrals (e.g. substance abuse, suicide, risk, etc.) for the purpose of identifying and addressing chemical dependency issues and/or determining need for additional services and/or referral.
  • Consults with parents, staff, and community agency personnel for the purpose of developing intervention goals and coordinating service plans.
  • Coordinates a variety of activities (e.g. student assistance program, etc.) for the purpose of providing continuity of services for students, in and out of school to promote success.
  • Develops and coordinates alternative activities for students (e.g. SADD, WDFY, TATU, SOS, SPAM, etc.) for the purpose of decreasing substance abuse and violence.
  • Facilitates educational groups for identified, at-risk students for the purpose of addressing chemical dependency related issues, alleviating isolation, identifying support resources, enhancing coping skills, and providing referrals.
  • Facilitates the student assistance team for the purpose of increasing problem identification and referral, communication, and/or service provision to identified students.
  • Maintains individual student records and files (e.g. evaluations, reviews, intervention, student recovery, reintegration programs, etc.) for the purpose of compiling and documenting activities in compliance with program evaluations.
  • Monitors students' grades and attendance for the purpose of evaluating program effectiveness.
  • Participates in community coalition for the purpose of sharing program goals and outcomes.
  • Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. case notes, RMC statistical reports, pre/post follow-up, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
  • Presents educational information to school staff, students, and parents on chemical dependency and school safety topics (e.g. alcohol/drug awareness programs, Project Success, etc.) for the purpose of increasing awareness and responsiveness within both the school and community.
  • Provides follow-up and aftercare to students who have been referred to outside services for the purpose of assisting in transition and functioning.
  • Provides individual and group counseling and support to students and parents for the purpose of improving functioning and academic success and/or meeting intervention goals.
  • Provides technical assistance in establishing comprehensive intervention programs for the purpose of delivering services in conformance with ESD objectives.
  • Researches a variety of topics (e.g. school safety, bully prevention, cooperation, drug/alcohol usage, tobacco prevention/cessation programs, etc.) for the purpose of remaining knowledgeable on current trends, providing information, and/or recommendations for program implementation.
  • Serves on the ESD's Crisis Response Team for the purpose of facilitating critical incident stress debriefing to those experiencing trauma brought on by crisis.
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.
