We’re looking for a hands-on, problem-solving, and dependable Maintenance Technician to keep our USDA Rural Development affordable housing property (18 units) in top condition. What

You’ll Do

You’ll be the go-to professional keeping our affordable housing property running smoothly. Your work will ensure residents have safe, functional, and comfortable homes while protecting the long-term value of the property.

Your day-to-day will include:

  • Performing post-occupancy repairs and improvements in multi-family units.
  • Handling a variety of maintenance tasks including plumbing, electrical, water heater service, windows, doors, ADA accommodations, gutters, steps, railings, painting, and cabinets.
  • Participating in annual unit inspections and rolling out a preventative maintenance plan across the property.
  • Coordinating and overseeing third-party vendors and contractors.
  • Troubleshooting and repairing building systems and equipment quickly and effectively.
  • Maintaining cleanliness of equipment, tools, and vehicles.
  • Managing supply inventory and processing purchase orders.
  • Delivering excellent customer service to residents while respecting confidentiality and dignity.
What We’re Looking For

We want someone who takes pride in their work and cares about creating safe, quality housing for those who need it most.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of experience in home repair, general construction, or maintenance (installing doors/windows, cabinets, basic plumbing/electrical).
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Ability to lift up to 85 lbs, work in crawl spaces, attics, rooftops, and other challenging environments.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team-focused, diverse environment.

Preferred (but not required):

  • 5+ years of maintenance or weatherization experience.
  • Certifications in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, or HVAC.
  • Apartment Maintenance Technician (CAMT) certification.
  • Fair Housing training (or ability to complete within 30 days).
  • Lead-based paint safety certification (training provided).

Qualifications

Requirements:

Education and Experience

  • Required:

    High School or equivalent; 2 years of experience in all phases of minor home repair, general construction including installation of doors and windows, cabinet.
  • Preferred:
    High School or equivalent; 5 years of experience in all phases of minor home repair and/or weatherization work. General carpentry, plumbing and electrical certifications. HVAC certification.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to empathize with and advocate for low-income and vulnerable people, and to maintain confidentiality with personal information.
  • Ability to safely use construction and insulation tools, materials, and equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of carpentry, electrical, and plumbing techniques used in home repairs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with emphasis on effectively working in a team environment and with a diverse population.
