Position SummaryOur camp dining hall is the hub of the camp experience. Our campers, guests, and staff visit the dining hall up to 3 times each day for healthy and fun meals to fuel their adventures. The Food Service Lead supports the operation of Camp Caseys dining program through the daily preparation, cooking, and service of nutritious meals. Working under the direction of the Food Service Director, this position ensures that all meals are prepared safely, efficiently, and in alignment with YMCA standards of quality and hospitality.
The Food Service Lead is the primary cook for assigned shifts and assists in menu preparation, kitchen organization, and the training of seasonal Food Service Assistants. This role helps create a welcoming dining experience that fosters community, supports healthy living, and reflects YMCA values.
- Prepare and serve high-quality meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks) for campers, conference groups, and retreat guests in accordance with established menus and dietary guidelines.
- Lead daily kitchen operations in the absence of the Food Service Director.
- Ensure safe food handling and sanitation practices in compliance with health regulations and YMCA policies.
- Oversee setup, service, and cleanup for each meal, maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen and dining area.
- Assist with menu planning, recipe development, and portion control to reduce food waste.
- Maintain inventory of food and supplies; assist with receiving and storing deliveries.
- Help train and support seasonal kitchen staff and volunteers in food preparation, service, and safety procedures.
- Communicate effectively with the Food Service Director regarding meal counts, equipment needs, and supply levels.
- Provide courteous, friendly, and professional service to guests and staff.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of kitchen equipment.
- Support YMCA events, special meals, and community programs as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Minimum Age: 18
- Two or more years of experience in food preparation or cooking in a camp, restaurant, or institutional setting.
- Strong knowledge of safe food handling and sanitation practices.
- Current Food Handlers Permit (required);
Serv Safe Certification (preferred). - Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience working with individuals and communities of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills; ability to lead others by example.
- Valid Washington State drivers license preferred.
