Food Service Substitute, $20.05 per hour
Wahluke School District seeks a Food Service Substitute to perform temporary and on‑call food service duties.
Hourly wage: $20.05 per hour (base range: $18.93/hr – $20.05/hr)
Department: Child Nutrition / Food Service
Reports to: Director of Child Nutrition, Child Nutrition Lead Cook, and/or Satellite Cook.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Prepare breakfast/lunch menu items according to standardized recipes and production sheets.
- Serve meals in compliance with USDA reimbursable meal requirements.
- Wash trays, pots, pans and maintain kitchen cleanliness.
- Sanitize food service equipment and maintain proper food holding temperatures.
- Operate kitchen equipment and dishwasher; inspect for cleanliness.
- Replenish serving line supplies and restock breakfast and lunch ingredients for the next day.
- Volunteer to supervise student servers and other food service staff as needed.
- Assist during emergency or on‑the‑job training situations.
- Food & Beverage Workers' Permit.
- High School Diploma or GED preferred (not required).
- Ability to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic in English.
- Manual dexterity, ability to work under pressure, and capacity to adapt to new situations.
- Minimum one year of food service experience preferred.
- Willingness to work with children in a kind and caring manner.
- Neat appearance and compliance with uniform policies.
- Dress per school policy: casual professional attire, closed‑toe shoes, no tank tops or shorts.
- Follow food safety rules: no eating, drinking, or smoking in food prep areas; wear hair restraints; keep jewelry removed.
- Show up early, ready for the scheduled shift (hair restrained, apron on, hands washed). No cell phones in kitchen area.
- Maintain ability to lift 25 pounds unassisted, 50 pounds with help, and push/pull carts.
- One 10‑minute break for a 4‑hour shift; ½‑hour unpaid lunch + one 10‑minute break for shifts over 5 hours.
