Outdoor/Nature/Animal Care
Company Description
Saturn’s Return is our small, diversified farm, inn, and home on 42 acres on San Juan Island, Washington. This will be our fourth season in business.
The FarmWe grow vegetables and flowers in our no-till market garden, rotate laying hens and visiting sheep from Oak Knoll Farm across 20 acres of pasture, and await the fruits and nuts of our young trial orchard, with hundreds more trees joining next winter. (See our planting map.) Soil health and biodiversity are the foundation of our stewardship here, and while we’re not certified, we always follow organic practices.
We sell our produce through our on-farm store, local food hub, grocery co‑op, to island restaurants—and starting this year, at the farmers market. We also collaborate with local organizations on riparian, wetland, and forest restoration projects adjacent to our farmland.
The inn is our primary business. It makes it financially possible to care for a meaningful amount of land on this beautiful island. More importantly, it allows us to share the abundance, beauty, and nourishment of the life we’re building here with island visitors.
Each morning, we prepare breakfast for our guests with eggs our pastured hens, locally roasted coffee, island‑grown grains, produce from our farm — a daily expression of the seasonal bounty of this place.
Our intention isn’t luxury in the traditional sense, but warmth, care, and a genuine sense of place.
Job descriptionWe’re looking for thoughtful, hard‑working, hospitality‑minded people to join our small team for the 2026 season. This is a role for someone who genuinely enjoys looking after places, food, and people — someone who values small details, brings steady energy to physical work, and loves to contribute wherever they can. You’ll be part of a close‑knit team caring for a diversified farm and inn, moving between the gardens, pasture, kitchen, and guest spaces during each dynamic week.
A strong interest in food and agriculture is essential — it’s at the heart of what we do. We’re looking for people who are excited by good produce, thoughtful cooking, and warm hospitality. Previous experience in farming, kitchens, or hospitality is preferred; though, we’re happy to train the right person. Energy, curiosity, and a good team spirit go a long way here!
ResponsibilitiesThis is a hybrid, hands‑on role shared between the farm, kitchen, and inn. Days are full and varied. The work can be physically demanding but is also deeply rewarding, rooted in tangible outcomes and the pleasure of working closely with food, land, and a supportive team.
On the FarmYou’ll participate in the daily operations of our small, diversified farm growing mixed vegetables and flowers and raising pastured hens and sheep. Tasks include seeding, planting, weeding, harvesting, washing/packing produce and eggs, rotating sheep and chickens, and seasonal projects. Team members will also take turns running our weekly farmers market booth as a pair.
In the KitchenYou’ll help prepare and serve daily inn breakfast — baking, cooking, setting up, and cleaning. You’ll also join larger seasonal preservation projects such as making jams, sauces, and ferments to stock our larder with summer’s abundance.
At the InnEveryone is cross‑trained in housekeeping and expected to step in when needed for guest room turnovers or larger changeover days. Team members are also expected to be warm, approachable hosts when on site — answering questions, lending a hand, and chatting with guests as they explore our 42 acres.
