Police Officer

Overview

Serve as the law enforcement officer of Beaufort County Community College Police Department. The Police Officer is responsible for enforcement of all applicable laws on campus and maintaining safety for the community.

Full Time

• Basic Law Enforcement Certification.
• Successful completion of a thorough background investigation, medical and psychological exam, and drug screening.
• Ability to perform duties on foot/bicycle, including securing campus facilities.
• Willingness to work outside in various weather conditions and flexible schedule (nights, weekends, on‑call).
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team of faculty, staff, and students.

• Associate’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
• Five years law enforcement experience.
• Experience with campus law enforcement.

• Enforce all federal, state, and local laws/regulations/ordinances on campus.
• Investigate criminal activity, make arrests, file charges, and testify in court.
• Perform high‑visibility patrols of buildings, parking lots, and grounds.
• Coordinate emergency procedures during evening hours with Student Services, Continuing Education, Switchboard, and Library personnel.
• Enforce campus parking and traffic regulations, issue tickets, and handle citations.
• Conduct physical security checks of facilities and secure doors during evening hours.
• Deliver emergency and non‑emergency messages.
• Participate in special school‑sponsored functions on and off campus.
• Direct traffic when necessary and set up parking for special events.
• Maintain proficiency in firearms and non‑lethal force, including pepper spray, ASP baton, and hand‑to‑hand techniques.
• Submit maintenance reports on locks, lighting, fire/safety hazards.
• Write accurate, clear, and concise police reports in a timely manner.
• Deliver daily deposits to the bank and post office when directed.
• Unlock and jump‑start vehicles and assist motorists as requested.
• Provide vehicle and foot escorts to campus citizens.
• Serve on committees as assigned.
• Assume duties of the Chief of Police in absence.
• Perform other duties assigned by supervisor.

Hours:

40 per week. Salary: $41,000‑$46,000 in accordance with the college’s salary plan, commensurate with education and experience.
