Overview
Responsible and accountable for assessing and participating in the planning of care for the peri-operative patient through the services offered in the pre-admission screening program. Responsible for gathering health information from each surgical patient who registers into the facility the day of procedure. Accountable for evaluating information provided and planning patients pre-operative preparation needs appropriately. Prepares each patient in a timely manner, following all hospital policies, procedures and standards of care.
Assures proper communication is given to the appropriate surgical team member for special patient needs. Maintains competent nursing skill level to ensure provision of safe quality patient care. The RN assures that the philosophy, mission, goals, objectives, policies and procedures of Mercy Hospital are followed. Is sensitive to the needs of patients, families and fellow co‑workers; plans and provides professional nursing care for patients in accordance with age specific needs;
plans and provides professional nursing care for patients in accordance with any identified cultural diversity needs (such as religions, lifestyles, beliefs, physical capabilities, and cultures); plans and provides professional nursing care for patients by assuring appropriate and effective pain management; assess, report, and assist any patients that present with evidence of abuse and/or neglect; and supports the mission of Mercy Hospital.
Co-workers are expected to abide by safety and infection control policies to maintain a safe environment for patients and co-workers.
Mercy Hospital Washington | RN Admitting Nurse – Med/Surg (Adults/Peds) | Full‑Time (36 hrs/week) | Shift: 11:00 AM – 8:30 PM, Monday – Thursday
Key Responsibilities- Gathering health information from surgical patients upon registration
- Evaluating and planning pre‑operative preparation needs
- Preparing patients in a timely manner while following hospital policies and standards of care
- Communicating special patient needs to the surgical team
- Maintaining competent nursing skills to ensure safe, quality care
- Graduate of an accredited RN program
- Current RN license in the hiring state or active compact licensure
- Minimum 2 years inpatient hospital experience
- Certifications required for this role:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – or completion within 30 days of hire
- Unit‑specific certifications as required
Ability to push/pull/lift 50 lbs regularly; prolonged standing/walking; ability to bend, kneel, twist, and squat.
