The West Platte School District is looking for qualified individuals to serve as a Substitute School Nurse on a PRN basis.

POSITION TITLE:

Substitute LPN/RN Nurse

F.L.S.A.:
Exempt

QUALIFICATIONS:

Currently licensed in the State of Missouri as a Licensed Practical Nurse, preferably Registered Nurse

Preferred Bachelor of Science in Nursing. A current fingerprint/FBI background check required.

Must be First Aid/CPR certified.

Must have passed the medicine administration test administered by the Health Department.

Possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities and physical attributes necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate or acceptable.

Superintendent or his/her designee

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
As needed

JOB GOAL:
To provide the fullest possible educational opportunity for each district student by minimizing absence due to illness and creating a climate of health and well-being in the district schools.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • 1. Coordination and participation in the establishment, review and implementation of school health policies and procedures.
  • 2. Ensure policies and procedures adhere to legal and regulatory requirements and ethical standards of nursing practice.
  • 3. Assessment, planning, and evaluation of the health services component of the coordinated school health programs as related to the health services contract with the Department of Health and Senior Services/State of Missouri.
  • 4. Development and coordination of quality improvement activities for the school health services component of the school health program.
  • 5. Provides screening and referral for health conditions
    • a. Screenings and referrals as mandated by Department of Health and Senior Services for the State of Missouri, as well as any other screenings
    • b. Promotes a healthy school environment.
    • c. Provides for the physical and emotional safety of the school community, monitors immunizations, and assures appropriate exclusion from and re-entry into school.
    • d. Reports communicable diseases as required by the State of Missouri.
    • e. Implements precautions for blood borne pathogens and other infectious diseases.
    • f. Assesses the physical environment of school and takes action to improve health and safety.
    • g. Addresses emotional environment to decrease bullying and violence and promotes environment conducive to optimal mental health and learning.
  • 6. Promotes health
    • a. Provides health education by providing health information to students.
    • b. Provides programs to staff, families, and the community on health topics.
  • 7. Serves as liaison between school personnel, family, community, and health care providers.
    • a. Participates as the health care expert on Individual Education Plan and 504 teams.
    • b. Communicates with family through telephone calls, written communication and home visits as needed.
    • c. Communicates with community health providers and community health agencies while ensuring appropriate confidentiality.
  • 8. Ensures health rooms and crisis kits are maintained with supplies and equipment by monitoring budget.
  • 9. Develops data collection tools required for program data, compiles accurate data and uses findings for planning, implementing and evaluating school health program.
  • 10. Provide appropriate training and supervision of any health room aides/volunteers.
  • 11. Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this position and employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk and use fingers. The employee is occasionally required to stand, reach, bend, lift, and carry.

CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT:

The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school environment that is noisy and active.
