Job Status – Full‑Time/Permanent

Program – Fish Program – Hatchery Division

Duty Station – Montesano, Washington (other duty stations in the region may be considered).

Region Served – Clallam, Grays Harbor, Jefferson, Kitsap, Mason, Pacific, Pierce, Thurston.

Remote Employment – Telework options up to 2–3 days per week at the discretion of the supervisor.

The Hatchery Operations Manager plays a critical role in advancing fish conservation and enhancement in Coastal Region 6. With your hatchery experience and leadership, you will oversee operations across 23 hatcheries, supervise Hatchery Division staff, and guide strategic program development throughout the region. In this role you will ensure efficient fish culture practices, maintain compliance with federal and state regulations, manage budgets and contracts, and collaborate across Fish Program teams to implement hatchery reform and conservation strategies that support the conservation, enhancement, and sustainable management of Washington's fish populations.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise staff to meet goals and expectations, promoting teamwork within operational guidelines.
  • Track and coordinate regional budget adjustments, ensuring expenditures match allotments and proposals are accurate and fully documented before presentation.
  • Develop long‑term strategic plans reflecting key issues and agency objectives, forecasting production changes and coordinating with the Regional Fish Program Manager for emerging needs.
  • Communicate with internal and external constituents to keep them informed about agency and Fish Program goals and activities.
  • Manage hatchery production, ensuring brood documentation meets state, federal, tribal, and other standards while contributing to agency performance measures.
  • Ensure facilities operate in compliance with all permits, policies, and procedures, meeting current and long‑term operational needs.
