The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Investigator 2 at Clallam Bay Corrections Center.

Clallam Bay Corrections Center is a 900-bed male facility located on the point of the Olympic Peninsula. It is 50 miles west of Port Angeles and looks out over the Strait of Juan de Fuca at Vancouver Island. This facility houses medium and close custody incarcerated individuals. CBCC also operates a Restricted Housing Unit.

Whether the work is inside a prison, in community corrections, or in an administrative office, the Washington State Department of Corrections professional staff experience a high degree of personal satisfaction knowing they are creating environments in which all incarcerated individuals can learn to make choices that contribute to a safer society.

Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Independently conduct comprehensive investigations to include, but not limited to criminal, Administrative, tort claims, fraud and background investigations, and any other claim under state jurisdiction that poses a threat to the public, staff and residents of Department of Corrections safety.
  • Gather, document and retain evidence according to applicable laws, Department polices, and procedures.
  • Write thorough investigation reports in a timely manner.
  • Conduct interviews, obtain statements of fact and document in accordance with applicable laws, Department policies and procedures for use in court of law or an administrative hearing.
  • Gather, develop, evaluate, document and disseminate intelligence information pertaining to incarcerated individuals and Security Threat Groups that pose a threat to the public, staff and incarcerated individual safety.
  • Accurately and promptly enter date into the Security Threat Group Tracking System.
  • Appropriately distribute Security Threat Group (STG) related information.
  • Provide the Chief Investigator, Superintendent and senior administrative staff with accurate, comprehensive timely intelligence information.
  • Document and file intelligence information according to policy.
  • Assure confidentiality with the cultivation/ collection of intelligence information according to laws and Department policies.
  • Operate and monitor the incarcerated individual telephone program, JPay, OMNI and other DOC information sources.
  • Review archived calls and perform live monitoring of incarcerated individual conversations.
  • On a rotational basis with the other Investigators at CBCC, be available for contact during off duty hours via DOC issued phone in order to communicate with confidential informants.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Respond to statewide emergencies and provide investigative/intelligence support at the request of HQ.
  • Meet with senior staff to provide information on ongoing issues and discuss facility or community safety concerns or suspicions.
  • May participate, supervise, lead, direct or support tactical, covert and/or investigative operations involving prison(s), community corrections or law enforcement/ criminal justice agency.
Required qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • One year of experience as an investigator within a correctional setting, criminal justice agency, criminal investigative agency of the armed forces, or private business investigations, investigating and documenting administrative, civil and criminal cases. Investigative experience may include but is not limited to various types of investigative work to include completing, grievance investigations, unfair and deceptive business practice investigations, insurance casualty claim investigations, theft/fraud investigations, administrative investigations, criminal investigations or other directly allied investigative field.

desired qualifications:
  • Knowledge of: methods, principles, standards, and techniques of criminal and civil investigations; interviewing techniques; rules of evidence; chain of custody of evidence; laws of arrest, search and seizure; investigative, report writing, applicable Washington State statutes and Federal and State regulations pertaining to the area of investigation; departmental regulations and policies and precedent-setting cases; bookkeeping practices; and principles of efficient supervision and training.
  • College-level course work with major emphasis in business administration, public administration, law, sociology, psychology, criminal justice, or directly allied investigative work experience preferred.
  • Ability to: train peer Investigators; gather, preserve, and present relevant and pertinent evidence without arising undue or undesirable comment among employers, friends, business agents, or neighbors; interpret and apply Washington State statutes and Federal and State regulations; write and speak clearly, concisely, accurately, and informatively; exercise objective and mature judgement in a wide variety of public contacts; effectively interact on a daily basis with…
