AMG Aluminum North America (AMG Al) is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Senior Specialist to join our growing team. In this role, you will be accountable for the day-to-day activities, implementation, and administration of environmental, health and safety programs at our manufacturing site in Malaga, Washington. In accordance with AMG Al’s vision and values, you will be responsible for creating a highly engaged and collaborative team through safety training, development, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilitiesand Duties
- Lead by example and comply with all AMG Al safety and environmental requirements, policies, and procedures, including AMG’s Code of Business Conduct
- Embrace and promote the AMG Al culture in all day-to-day activities; foster and promote a positive, respectful work environment that is aligned with AMG’s Values
- Maintain the site’s "License to Operate" by managing all regulatory permits for air emissions, hazardous waste disposal, and wastewater, with or without the assistance of a 3 rd party administrator or contractor.
- Design, implement, and administer comprehensive EHS programs tailored to metal manufacturing, ensuring full compliance with OSHA, EPA, and local regulations.
- Promote a proactive culture of safety engagement by coaching employees, enforcing safe work practices, and encouraging the use of safer equipment and materials. Lead the Safety Engagement Program and other site-specific safety programs.
- Develop and deliver specialized safety training and health initiatives, including heat stress management, respiratory protection, and hazard awareness.
- Conduct regular site audits and inspections to identify hazards and ensure the integrity of machine guarding and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) systems.
- Lead incident investigations and Root Cause Analysis (RCA), ensuring timely reporting and the execution of effective corrective actions.
- Establish and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), tracking both leading indicators (near-miss reporting, audit completion, training compliance) and lagging indicators (TRIR, DART, severity rates).
- Establish and monitor industrial hygiene controls for exposure to hazardous materials, fumes, and high-decibel environments.
- Collaborate with the EHS Senior Specialist at the Henderson facility to synergize safety manuals, SOPs, and vendor procurement to ensure operational consistency.
- Execute joint "cross-audits" and shared "Lessons Learned" sessions with the Henderson facility to identify blind spots and prevent recurring incidents.
- Facilitate the site’s Safety Committee, actively involving floor-level operators in decision-making and hazard mitigation.
- Coordinate emergency preparedness by planning and executing drills for fire, chemical spills, and medical emergencies.
- Work with the site HR & Safety Coordinator to manage Workers’ Compensation and Return-to-Work programs, focusing on injury prevention and sustainable recovery for high-risk manual roles.
- Oversee the selection and fit-testing of specialized PPE.
- Maintain Safety metrics
- Perform other duties as required to support the evolving health, safety, and environmental needs of the organization.
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental health & safety, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene or a related technical field.
- 5 or more years of experience in fast paced manufacturing environment required; steel or hot metal experience a strong plus; hands‑on experience strongly preferred
- Previous leadership experience required, with proven track record of successful safety leadership
- Union experience preferred
- Must be receptive and adaptive to change
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills a must (verbal, written, and listening skills)
- Ability to coach, mentor, train and develop team members; team player
- Ability to work in both hot and cold environments where the temperature can swing rapidly
- Ability to work with a counterpart at the Henderson facility to develop and implement unified management systems
- Exceptional ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into ‘shop floor’ language for a diverse workforce
