Duties Help
* Review all pertinent data and determine requirements for ancillary testing and program placement.
* Evaluate patients for referral to nurse or physician.
* Perform various screenings such as vision, vital signs, spirometry, audiometry, and electrocardiograms (EKGs) and review results for completeness and accuracy.
* Refer abnormal vital signs, vision screenings, EKS, audiometry, and spirometry results to an occupational health nurse (OHN) or provider for evaluation per clinic standard operating procedures (SOP).
* Verify and order all indicated laboratory studies, X rats, immunizations and other ancillary tests as appropriate.
* Document pertinent data in the medical record on other documents, as appropriate for the examination being performed on both hard and electronic copies.
* Comply with Infection control guidelines and practices including universal precautions.
* Triage patients as they arrive, identifying those whose examinations/evaluations will need to be expedited. Requirements Help Conditions of employment
* Must Possess and Maintain a valid US State issued driver's license to carry out position related duties.
* Required to lift up to 15 LBS in the regular performance of duties.
* Required to wear personnel protective equipment.
* NIOSH Spirometry course certification is Required within 6 months
* Incumbent is required to have successfully completed CAOHC approved course in audiometry within 6 months.
* Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
* A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
* This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
* Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
* This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
* Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
* Must currently have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) and other organizations (e.g., professional;
philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Experience:
One year of specialized experience which assisting with reception and/or clerical duties in a Medical Treatment Facility; assisting with maintaining and/or updating medical records; and assisting with tests, screenings, and/or examinations such as audiograms, pulmonary function testing, and vision screenings. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
OR
Education:
Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position, such as Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or Health Informatics. OR Combination of
Education and Experience:
A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
GS-0640-06 Specialized
Experience:
One year of specialized experience which conducting patient screenings to gather medical history; maintaining records utilizing automated healthcare systems and/or written documentation; conducting tests, screenings, and/or examinations such as audiograms, EKG's/ECG's, pulmonary function testing, and vital signs; and assisting with preparing patients for diagnostic procedures.
