The Registered Dietitian provides evidence-based, patient-centered medical nutrition therapy across the continuum of inpatient and outpatient hospital services. The RD conducts nutrition assessments, develops and implements nutrition care plans, documents care in the medical record, and collaborates with the interprofessional team to optimize outcomes, patient safety, and regulatory compliance.
Performance Responsibilities Patient Care- Provides individualized nutrition care, education, counseling, and/or support for all Swing Bed Program inpatients, as well as high-risk Acute Care inpatients at OBH
- Participates in the swing bed care conferences
- Provides outpatient medical nutrition therapy, education, counseling, and support for patients referred by OBHMC providers
- Completes required electronic health record (EHR) documentation in accordance with CMS and WAC guidelines and OBHMC policies
- Visits Acute Care inpatients as needed to determine preferences, take meal/snack orders
- Monitors, evaluates, recommends, and prescribes patient diet orders
- Consults with Food Service Supervisor (FSS) to ensure compliance with health regulations
- Collaborates with Dietary staff, Nurse Managers, and Providers to implement the OBHMC Diet Manual
- Provides expertise on nutrition-related policies and procedures
- Develops cycle menus, evaluates and adjusts recipes for special diets, and ensures appropriate portion sizes
- Helps assess staffing adequacy and assists with scheduling
- Observes food preparation and service to ensure quality and proper temperatures, provides recommendations for improvement
- Supports cost control and record-keeping procedures and contributes to developing appropriate forms
- Advises on ordering food and supplies, provides information on new products and procurement
- Supports in-service training sessions for Dietary Staff
- Consults on policies and procedures affecting both departments
- Collaborates on formulating efficient dietary service policies
- Participate in development and implementation of community outreach, education, and wellness events
- Bachelor's or higher degree in dietetics
- Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN) credential in good standing with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)
- Washington State Certified Dietitian (CD) credential per RCW 18.138
- Basic Life Support within 6 months of hire (company provided)
- Participate in rounds; coordinate with physicians, nursing, case management, pharmacy, PT/OT, and food service
- Ensure safe food/nutrition services consistent with CMS requirements for Food & Dietetic Services (42 CFR 482.28(a)), including allergy management and NPO safety
- Monitor high-risk populations and prioritize per risk screening
- Support glycemic management, renal diet restrictions, and cardiac/heart failure nutrition bundles
