Introduction

Under the direction of the Chief Medical Officer, The Family Nurse Practitioner serves as a medical provider at the David

C. Wynecoop Memorial Health Center and will provide care for acute and chronic medical conditions within their scope of practice.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides medical screenings, evaluations, diagnoses, and treatment of health problems. Performs routine minor outpatient surgeries and procedures.
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient’s age-specific needs.
  • Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments.
  • Facilitates staff, patient, and family decision making by providing educational tools.
  • Performs the required medical treatment on patients in an efficient, effective, and professional manner.
  • Provides emergency medical care when necessary.
  • Coordinates referral services with appropriate staff.
  • Obtains and documents medical history of each patient, including patient s chief complaint, present condition, patient s individual history, and family history.
  • Provides positive participation in committees, as assigned.
  • Assists with safety emergency preparedness and disaster planning.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills Required for Position
  • Demonstrated competency dealing with all age groups including neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.
  • Independent, mature judgment is required in dealing with individual patients, treatment plans, and referral of complex cases.
  • Ability to examine, diagnose, and provide medical treatment, seeking consultation as needed.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relations with the Clinic staff, Tribal members and their families, as well as outside health professionals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and relate to Tribal and community members, staff, and federal, state, and local health agencies.
  • Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care, including EKG machine, PFT machine, AED, and Nebulizer.
  • Ability to operate an electronic health records system and/or electronic patient management system.
  • Ability to foster an inclusive workplace where diversity and individual differences are valued and leveraged to achieve the vision and mission of the Coquille Indian Tribe.
  • Capacity to develop the ability of others to perform and contribute to the organization by providing ongoing feedback and by providing opportunities to learn through formal and informal methods.
  • Knowledge of medications and injection procedures.
  • Ability to assess the specific age-related needs of patients.
  • Possess awareness and sensitivity of Indian traditions, customs, and socioeconomic needs and ability to work effectively with diverse cultures.
  • Knowledge of regulations on the confidentiality of medical records and Personal Health Information in alignment with HIPAA standards.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and objectivity under constant pressure and crisis situations.
