Wiegmann Associates is in search of a Project Engineer Intern for the summer of 2024. A project engineer intern at Wiegmann Associates will have direct exposure to what it is like to be a full-time project engineer by working alongside full-time employees. The description for a full time project engineer is described below.

A project engineer at Wiegmann Associates will design HVAC systems for a diverse range of commercial and industrial construction projects. These projects vary in size and scope, encompassing both new constructions and renovations of existing facilities. Mechanical system designs may range from modest budgets to substantial investments, covering buildings and facilities of varying industries.

Project engineers work on designing cost-effective, energy‑efficient, and high‑performing mechanical HVAC systems. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, conducting HVAC building heating/cooling load calculations, interpreting and analyzing building/energy/mechanical codes, designing ductwork and piping systems, selecting suitable HVAC equipment, and performing energy consumption and demand calculations. Duties may also involve occasional travel for on‑site project visits, engaging with clients during sales and design meetings, and participating in HVAC industry events.

Throughout the project lifecycle, project engineers actively collaborate with the building design team to coordinate mechanical systems with other disciplines. Wiegmann utilizes cutting‑edge design and construction software such as Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD MEP, Navisworks, and Trimble Sys Que to virtually model designs, generate construction documents, and facilitate successful system installations. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to work independently and collaboratively, meet deadlines, and possess excellent oral and written communication skills.

This position offers a unique opportunity to work alongside six experienced professional engineers, gaining valuable experience in the vast design/build construction industry both locally in the St. Louis area and across various states nationwide.
