Lead Mechanical Engineer – Turbine‑Generator Groups
Regular full‑time position to join the turbine‑generator team
Hatch’s Hydropower group has been a global leader, having designed more than 45,000 MW of projects in Canada and abroad. We are one of the largest hydropower engineering firms in Canada, with over 400 specialized engineers and technicians across our offices in Canada, India, the United States, Latin America, and Australia.
We are currently looking for aLead Mechanical Engineer for turbine‑generator groups to join our team. Our team is growing, and the engineer will work on stimulating and diverse projects globally. They will join a dynamic, highly qualified multidisciplinary team. We have developed new services and markets to make the turbine‑generator engineering role dynamic and at the forefront of technology.
We have several exciting rehabilitation, new unit, and study projects. Our team is composed of experts with various backgrounds, creating a stimulating environment where everyone can excel in their specialty.
The engineer will be responsible for participating in and performing the following tasks:
- Provide engineering services and advice related to the design, manufacturing, and installation of mechanical components of turbines and generators for new power plant construction or refurbishment/modernization of existing units;
- Supervise and coordinate the technical work of fellow engineers and technicians;
- Prepare technical reports for studies, analyses, checks and inspections, technical modification requests, non‑conformities, etc.;
- Carry out preliminary modernization studies for units, including on‑site technical audits, analysis of client needs, report writing, preparation of quantity sheets, etc.;
- Write technical specifications for procurement or refurbishment of turbine‑generator units;
- Review supplier documentation such as drawings, calculation notes, manufacturing procedures, purchase specifications, assembly procedures, etc.;
- Perform inspections, supervision, and occasional testing in workshops or on site;
- Prepare and write proposals and present them to clients.
Desired Skills:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical design for turbine‑generator groups; other relevant backgrounds also welcome;
- Available for occasional travel;
- Good practical knowledge of mechanical design software;
- Experience with finite element analysis tools is an asset;
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (master’s degree is an asset);
