Position Summary

The Marine Mechanic coordinates, leads, and documents maintenance and repair functions associated with the operation of project vessels. Adheres to departmental procedures and ensures associated training and compliance. Performs preventative maintenance program and planning activities. Maintains vendor and contractor relationships. Executes and manages critical spares and consumable inventories. Reviews and monitors work requests and ensures machinery history is maintained. Supports departmental budget and works to achieve high levels of cost efficiency.

  • Remain true to and champion the Company’s RESPECT Core Values and Code of Conduct.
  • Consider reliability and efficiency regarding Company operations.
  • Support overall state of safety and security for the project site.
  • Demonstrate practical knowledge of all phases of shipboard safety procedures and knowledge of location and use of all firefighting and safety equipment (i.e., fire extinguishers, life preservers, work vest).
  • Use proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Compliance with Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) (as required).
  • Report safety-related concerns.
  • Periodically inspect machinery spaces for environmental, safety and health deficiencies. Bring deficiencies to the attention of the Chief Engineer and Vessel Master. Monitor corrective actions until complete.
  • Develop and promote engineering management systems at the project site.
  • Implement and execute Preventative Maintenance Program.
  • Develop work orders and issue maintenance and repair assignments.
  • Support the completion of maintenance and repair tasks by Company personnel and outside contractors.
  • Maintain machinery history.
  • Assist with training and orientation of maintenance personnel and shipboard engineers.
  • Support and maintain consistency among engineering training programs at the project site and throughout the Company.
  • Participates in engineering training and drills in accordance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and best management practices.
  • Sail as watch Chief Engineer if required.
  • Supports engineering personnel proficiency and provides instructions / guidance for areas of improvement. Encourage and monitor shipboard engineering staff for career advancement.
